Waterton Beach Zoom

As I mentioned yesterday, this is exactly the same picture as before, just cropped differently.  Most of the images I do end up being the about 300% of their normal size, just because it’s a 6MP camera, and then I’m cramming all that data down to 800×600 (max) pixels.  However, this crop is exactly 100%.  It’s crazy to see how much detail there really is, especially since I was probably half a mile away (at least).  I’m really amazed at the detail of the rocks in the water.

Oh, and don’t the people and trees look fake?  It’s amazing what a macro type blur can do to your perception.

Waterton Beach

Another picture from Canada.  I’m definitely not putting these up in any sort of order.  It’s more how they strike me as being processed.

Anyways, this is another technique that I’m trying.  I think tomorrow’s picture (which is the same thing, only cropped differently, shows it off better.

Morning Dew

More fun from the trip.  I stayed out two nights ago a little late, and that’s why there was no update.  Oops.  This one has be done with a new technique I’m trying with curves.  I really like how it turned out.  You can hit up the bulk section under waterton to see the original.  Quite a bit different.

Many Glacier Night

This one is a little darker than my normal shots, but what can I say, I really like it. I actually took it without a tripod too. I just sat the camera on the balcony of the hotel room and held down the button.

The trip was good, by the way. I took just under 1000 pictures while I was there. Thanks to Joel for letting me borrow his two 2GB compact flash cards. I know I need to buy a few more, but I’ve had other things to purchase (mainly furniture and stuff for this trip).

I’m hoping to be somewhat decent about updating this site, especially with all the images I can pull from now. I know that I’m going to be busy with a lot of other things though: catching up for the last week I was out (ugh, as much as I love taking vacations, there are definite downsides), job seeking, along with the normal stuff. There’s also a few new things I want to look into doing to the images, especially surrounding skies. It’s going to be hard, since all these images don’t have a flat horizon, but it would add so much to them. Oh yeah, I’d like to actually categorize all my images at some point too. I’ve got about 3000 that are sitting in the “untagged” folder. Lovely.

Also, all the images that I took will be uploaded into the events and places section of my site.  That way people can browse through all of them before I actually post them all done up on the site.  I had to break them up, since Lightroom doesn’t seem to like making sites with more than 500 images.  Lame.

Box

This was one of the first pictures I took with my new camera.  Taken in the downstairs of Erin’s parent’s house.  It’s also the same time I took the Piano Keys image, which is still one of my favorites.  Between this image and that one, you can see how unskilled I was with depth of field with my brand new 50mm lens.  At the time, I remember thinking none of the pictures were even going to turn out because of the low light.  Well, these two were about the only ones.

However, on Friday I had mentioned that I was for sure going to post something today.  This picture reminds me of a time, in my head right, of a (lot) better time.  Things seemed so much simpler and happier.  I wish I could be back there, or at least a year ago today and change so many things.

Algae

I have quite a few good pictures from labor day weekend up in Leland.  I just need to start going through them.  Hopefully I’ll have time later tonight to go through more of them, so there are images each day I’m away on vacation taking even more pictures up in Banff and Glacier National Park.  I can’t wait to get some of those back, should be gorgeous.  For sure I’ll have a picture posted on the 10th though.  Just need to find which one really shows what I want to say.
