Well, we have finally made it.  After a lot of talk, and quite a bit of quick action, Yow-Yow and I have arrived in Melbourne.  It took a lot of travelling to get here (including a 6 night stop at the St. Regis Kauai), but so far, we are enjoying it a lot!

Today’s shot is from our balcony in our temporary living arrangements in Southbank.  From our living room, we look out over the river and into the CBD.  Behind the tall buildings on the right is where the Australia Open is played too.  I didn’t realize it was so close to downtown.  You can see the full-sized image if you want, but be careful, it is large (2MB!).

Tonight we are heading to an AFL game, as it is the finals and one of the guys here wants to see it before potentially having to leave.  I’m sure we’ll have some fun pictures of that.  Plus, being that this is a new place for me, I’m sure I’ll keep posting about our adventures!

Looking through all these images, I still can’t get over how clear the skies were almost the whole time we were in New Zealand.  It was just incredibly beautiful all the time.

We didn’t even think we were going to head to Dunedin, but when we arrived in Christchurch, there wasn’t much to do as they had just had the large earthquake a few weeks prior.  We also didn’t arrive early enough to get on a bus to Queenstown.  Instead, we asked at the information desk about where else we could go.  He mentioned the next bus was heading to Dunedin, so we signed up!

I love trips like that, where you have a general plan, but if things don’t work out, you just head in another direction and make the most of it.  I think that’s why I love travelling with Yow-Yow so much, she doesn’t get frustrated if things don’t work out exactly as we hoped.  We both can get edgy at times, but most of the time it just rolls of and we move on.

More pulls from the archive.  This one is actually from the 2nd time I was in Paris, and was with my point and shoot (turned out half way decent).  I was working in London and my team and I took the train to Paris for a couple of days.  Since I had been there not even a year before, I took them on a very long walk through the streets.  I think I killed them that day, as they were both limping along at the end, and there was still another place I wanted to find!

Hopefully I’ll get back to Europe soon, but in the mean time, each new week is a bit closer to a move to Melbourne in the fall…

Extra Lean!

A few weekends ago I walked by the old post office here. I was hoping to get a few shots of the new batman movie set. They were using the building as a set for some Gotham National Bank scenes. However, when I got there, there wasn’t much left. But there was this old rusted sign. It’s a shame that the building is now empty. It’s so large and grandiose that I doubt anyone else will take it over. Plus it’s been empty for quite a few years. Good thing the post office built a brand new office right across the street from it.

Oh, and I know I’ve talked about buying a new place lately.  Well, I’ve finally gotten pictures up.  Nothing on this site, but instead on my sister site.

A water tower nearby.  Wonder if they make the steaks there?

This weekend the plan is to get a picture or two up of the new place.  However, for the time being, you’ll be subjected to urban settings.

**Update**  There are new entries in waiting, however, my internet connection at home is having some difficulties, so I wasn’t actually able to upload the images.  Ugh.  Hopefully it works soon so I can get those up.

Closing is done, and I have the keys!

This is the “famous” Chicago hotdog with all the fixins.  So good, I may have to visit Portillo’s for lunch tomorrow.

Today’s the big day!!  I’ll hopefully have pics up of it in a few days.

Another gorgeous day out.  Spent about 5 hours outside walking around down by the lake.  Brought the camera and a book, but didn’t actually take any pictures.  I wanted to get a pic or two of the set of the next Batman movie, but they took down all the Gotham National Bank signage on the old post office building.
