Painted Metal

Yeah, so I’ve been a wee bit busy, which is why there was no image yesterday.  I didn’t get home till 10 on Tuesday night from work, and for some reason, I didn’t feel much like processing an image to put up.  So is the life of a part time photographer.  Actually, since this is photo #100, I wanted to give a dramatic pause.  Did it work?  No?  Damn.

Needless to say, I’m definitely in the urban theme pretty hard this week.  The next few images that go up all share that in common, and there’s about 20 after that.  It’s amazing how much stuff there is just outside your door.  I mean, I’ve walked by these places taking pictures two or three times, and I still find new and fresh things to photograph.  Awesome.

Fire Escape

Wow, I actually got out this weekend and took a picture of something.  I’m definitely sensing more of an industrial feel to many of the images I’m taking lately.  It could be because I only seem to get out around my apt.  I haven’t been really doing anything else of late.  Work, come home, work out, sleep, rinse, repeat.  So exciting!

Anyways, this is one of the cold storage buildings over by my house.  I wish I had a different lens because the fire escape goes all the way up the side of the building, some 15 stories.  It’s really quite impressive.  Alas, with the 105mm lens, you only get three floors of that.

Motorcycle Speedometer

The final motorcycle picture.  I was hoping to get a more perfect square crop, but that just wasn’t possible.  Maybe if I take another picture of it I can make it happen, but definitely not with this image.

Motorcycle Tailpipe

Some more chrome, this time on the tailpipe instead of the engine.

Motorcycle Engine

The next three images have all been processed the same way, except for some slight cropping.  The motorcycle has been parked behind my apartment for the last month or so.  With as much rain as we’ve been getting, I was suprised that they didn’t cover it.  Oh well, it allowed for some nice chromed shots.

And if you look really closely, you can see me.

A nice profile of my Mom taken over the holidays.  Look at how her nose curls up!

This picture wasn’t actually taken by me, but by my Dad quite awhile ago.  That’s why there’s no EXIF data listed below.  It was one of the pictures that my Dad had found of him for a memorial DVD.

It needed a little cleaning up, but this was actually one of them that didn’t need that much.  After going through some of those images, it made me thankful for using a digital camera, especially with color.  Just the different types of film and the color casts are enough to give me a headache.  The ability to change things “mid roll” with the digital camera does make things nice.  However, I still may go down that track, just to see.  I figure it’d be worth it.

Frozen Turtle

With as warm as it has been around here, it’s amazing that I was able to find any ice at all.  Well, actually, this wasn’t taken in Chicago, but in Detroit.  That would explain it, right?

Ribity

Amazingly, around where I live there isn’t a lot of graphiti.  However, I think it’s because if there is any, someone quickly covers it up with a fresh coat of paint.  I’d hate to think how many layers are on some of the buildings around here.

Update
Oooh, my new toys are here!  I got my monopod, tripod, head, filters and bag!  The monopod and tripod are a lot thicker than I thought they’d be, but the ruggedness is a good thing.  I can’t wait to start using them.  You may see a Chicago skyline shot in the near future.

I can’t believe I ever made the huge mistake of letting you go.

This is actually an older picture from this summer at Michael and Jessica’s Wedding.  It’s one of those images that I couldn’t get the processing right on at the time.  I still don’t know if it’s “right”, but I really like the picture, so I wanted to get it up.  And what better way to start the New Year?

New features on the site include a new random entry link up in the top right corner.  It’s currently taking the place of the “buy” link because, well, nobody wants to buy any of these.  Also, the navigation off the front page actually goes to the image names instead of P1, P2, etc.  That page navigation always bothered me, and I’m glad I finally took care of it.

Happy New Year!
