Grapefruit Center

After munching on this grapefruit, I couldn’t resist taking a picture of it. The saturation of the colors, the intricate designs all made me grab my camera. I’m glad I did too, and hopefully you will too after the next few day’s images.  This one is my new desktop.  If you want one too, just drop me a line.

Icy Trails

This is the last of the beach shots, at least until I go visit it again.  Starting tomorrow, I’m going to start posting shots from the AZ trip, including a photo from the shoot where I broke the camera.

I’m not sure exactly why ice formed in these footprints, but it adds something different to the typical footprints in the sand.

Sandy Swirls

This is another fusion of the sand, snow, and wind.  The sand is actually on top of the snow and not peeking through.  It’s very interesting, and I’m surprised the snow doesn’t melt because of it.

Cones

I am definitely fascinated by bright, loud colors.  It’s hard to tell from a lot of the pictures I post here, but bright contrast is something I’m always looking for.  Living in the city, with all the dirt and grime, makes that hard at times, which is why I like visiting other places.  These cones were actually arranged in a octahedral type shape, with the noses all pointing out.

Large Screen

Patterns in the city seem to fascinate me.  They are all over, even in abandoned parking garages.

Yellow Tiles

This has got to be one of the more interesting facades to a building.  In the entryway of an art gallery near me are these large yellow tiles.  Each tile is about the size of a cinder block, and they line the whole entry way.  It’s definitely strange, and I don’t think I would’ve done it, but they do look cool closeup.

Painted Metal

Yeah, so I’ve been a wee bit busy, which is why there was no image yesterday.  I didn’t get home till 10 on Tuesday night from work, and for some reason, I didn’t feel much like processing an image to put up.  So is the life of a part time photographer.  Actually, since this is photo #100, I wanted to give a dramatic pause.  Did it work?  No?  Damn.

Needless to say, I’m definitely in the urban theme pretty hard this week.  The next few images that go up all share that in common, and there’s about 20 after that.  It’s amazing how much stuff there is just outside your door.  I mean, I’ve walked by these places taking pictures two or three times, and I still find new and fresh things to photograph.  Awesome.

Orange Texture

This is an interestingly painted piece of diamond plate steel.  I guess it’s this color because it appeared to be used as a landing dock.  Easier to see?

Paint Splatter

Took this one a weekend ago or so when it was cooler out. You can’t really tell, but the lighting for this one was atrocious. I actually took this one under a bridge on Ogden, where the Metra goes over. It’s amazing what a little post processing will do.

On another note, does anyone else hate the new DLP commercials? You know, the ones with the girl in the pink dress and the elephant? The bother me to no end because of the colors. The pink dress is way too saturated, and her skin tones are not right at all. They look very dull and dark, which is completely wrong for the processing they’ve done with the dress. It looks as if they’ve used a yellowish colored soft box on both the girl and the elephant too, but not any of the other actors if there are any in the commercial. Nor is the background lighting at all the same. It’s just very annoying I guess.

Green Bricks

This week is going to be a high contrast week I think.  I’ve got quite a few images from a few weeks ago, plus some that I took yesterday, that will fit into this quite well.

On another note, man is it hard to get outside when it’s cold.  It takes a whole lot to get me outside of the warm apartment, bundle up, and brave the wind.  Thankfully yesterday was a bit warmer than the previous week, so it wasn’t horrible.  However, I still had a numb had when I came back inside.  I hope my pain is worth it though.
