Waving Saguaro

I love that sky blue color.  The Saguaro’s are crazy interesting plants too.  Especially when you consider they only grow around one inch per year, and there are so many that are over 20 feet tall.

Bisbee AZ

An old mining town, Bisbee has recreated itself as more of an artsy town set in the hills close to the Mexico border.  While we were there, there was actually quite a bit of snow.  Two days prior to us arriving, they had ~6 inches.  You can still seem some remnants on the hill in the background.

Unfortunately, since we went there on a weekday, most of the nicer shops were closed.

MASH

The two choppers flew right over us, and then they were set against the hills and palm trees.  Why there were palm trees in the desert museum, I haven’t a clue.  However, it looked like a scene right out of Vietnam.

Subtle Desert Colors

I guess I won’t go two days without an image…

St Joe Pier

It was a grey, typical winter Michigan day when I was up there.  I’m suprised the people were actually fishing out there as the pier was completely covered in ice.

Stranger on the Beach

I wish I lived along the beach so I could take strolls, like this gentleman, whenever I wanted.  Granted, I do kind of live by the beach, but being in such a large city takes away from the peacefulness of the walk.  Especially with cars on Lake Shore whizzing past at breakneck speeds.

I got my camera back today!  Talk about awesome turn around.  It took them less than a day (compared to 2+ weeks if I had sent it in), plus it was only $150.  I also got the viewfinder for the Nikon F fixed too!  It was just missing some screws, but the guy replaced them all, even the ones I didn’t notice!  Awesome service over at International Camera.

Winter Caves

The beaches along Lake Michigan in the winter are very different than the summer months.  It’s amazing how much sand is deposited on the west coast of the lake.  This is one of the mixings of the snow, sand, and dune grass.  You get these interesting, delicate structures that are all covered in sand, just like it fell from the sky.

Pollution

Coming back from St Joseph, MI, there’s a scenic overlook off of the Red Arrow Highway.  I had wanted to snap a couple of pictures on the way there, but then didn’t because it was an overcast, boring day.  However, on the way back looking over Lake Michigan towards Gary, this is what you could see.  The reason for the red-orange glow was because in Chicago there was actually no cloud cover (yay lake effect), and the sun was setting.

**Update**
Just dropped off my camera here in town.  Yay to having an authorized repair place in the loop.  Anyways, for $150 the LCD will be fixed, and I should have it back by tomorrow!  He’ll also take a look at the Nikon F I’ve got too, and hopefully clean it up.

Winter Beach

It’s cold.  Very cold.

Overcast

Ah, beautiful MI in the winter; overcast.  Heck, later in the day it even flurried.  How I miss living in West Michigan.  Amazingly for the time of year it was when I took this, there was no ice in Lake Michigan.  That is not the normal.  Many times I’ve gone to the lake, you wouldn’t even be able to see that lighthouse because of the ice flows that pile up along the beach.

As I mentioned yesterday, I broke my camera.  Thankfully, it still mostly works, but the top LCD, the one that gives me all the settings information, is toast.  I was attempting to get my tripod to basically be on the ground for some night shots, and so I had to take out the center column.  Well, to do that, you have to unscrew a piece which is connected to where the tripod head is connected.  Not realizing which end actually came off, I unscrewed it and then my tripod head was on the ground.  However, on the way down it must have hit the top of my camera.

At the time I didn’t realize it, until I wanted to adjust the aperture.  Needless to say, I couldn’t see anything on the display.  That day wasn’t going well already, and this was definitely the cherry on the top.  At least I got a few decent pictures that night, but gave up in frustration for a few shots I wanted to take.
