Down in St Petersburg, The Pier reminded me of Navy Pier here in Chicago. They’re basically the same thing, a way to take people’s money with exceptionally high priced items. It was fun to walk around, but no place I’d go normally.

This was taken down in FL while I was there for training a few weeks ago. The exact location is Treasure Island Beach. It was amazing how much beach there actually was here. It was a good 100 yards of sand between the parking lot and the ocean. It was nearing the end of the day so the park workers were taking down the chairs. I don’t remember there being that many, but I think the picture remembers it a bit better than I do.
The colors, the light, I’m not sure exactly what drew me to this picture, but as I was walking by I knew I just had too.
I don’t know what it is about the beach, or why it’s so fascinating, but it seems as if everyone enjoys taking photographs there. Well, since I was near the beach, I figured I couldn’t resist. The funny looks people gave me while I was just sitting there in the sand made me wish I had a camera in the back of my head though.
Another picture taken at UIC’s campus. It was so tempting to put various things on the tack board during post processing.
This is definitely not one of the better images I’ve put up here, but I couldn’t help it simply because of the subject matter. This tree was simply magnificent and every time I walked by it I instantly thought of The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. There were actually two of them touching each other, which is why it’s not a very well framed shot. Oh yeah, and this was taken on my recent trip to Tampa/St. Petersburg last week.
This is the other image that I mentioned yesterday. Basically, this is an identical image, except this one was taken from the top of a parking garage instead of on street level like the other one. I think I like the other one better though because of the lights in this one. However, I really like the multiple modes of transportation shown in this one: train, automobile, and air (blimp). The blimp is slightly hard to find, but it’s there.
As this image has a number in it, it’s actually from a group of shots that I did. The other one will be posted tomorrow. I figured I should start posting a few images of great town that I live in, and I think this one fits the bill nicely.
The other weekend (I guess it’s been about 4 ago now) I went for a walk and last weeks and this weeks images are from that walk. Actually, the next few weeks probably will be. Normally when I walk around with my camera I head straight for the lake. It’s not that far from my place and there’s usually a lot going on. However for this stroll I decided to stay in the West Loop and actually head more South.
Driving from the suburbs every once in awhile, I can always gauge how close I am from the city based on how large the Sears Tower is. In fact, I usually use this as a marker even when I’m driving around town. Anyways, as I head home into the city on the Eisenhower this is the image I get.
In this one, I really should’ve used HDR again, because the water looks so murky and black which it totally isn’t. In fact, I’ve never seen clearer water before, well, except for maybe in the Caribbean.
These are the types of photos that really bring back memories for me. I still wouldn’t consider them snapshots, though.
So it’s Friday the 13th, and I needed to throw up something a little more “scary” than what normally goes up here. I don’t think this really fits that either, but it’s the best I could do, honest.
For those of you that visited the beta site at all, you’ll recognize this picture. I have no idea why, but it was actually the image that I used when I was still in the testing phase of the site. I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to actually put it on the site, but here it is.
Oh, and this was taken while we were waiting for the 4th of July fireworks. Needless to say there were a few people worried we may get a little wet.
