Areole

I had wanted to do updates daily, like normal, but actually compose the post the night before. As you can tell, from the lack of updates last week, that didn’t work. So, this week, I’ll be doing what I had been doing for the past months, where I upload all the images on Sunday night along with the posts. Maybe next week I’ll do a hybrid of the two and see how that works. It’s just I’ve been so busy with both work and life in general, that I haven’t had the time after work to actually put up any images. It’s not that I don’t have any, just that, well, I don’t have time.

Anyways, here’s the areole of a saguaro cactus. After editing a few images today, I’ve realized I need to take the image I think I want, and then get closer. With the 105mm lens I have, I can do that, and I think I’m missing the real best picture by not stretching myself to do more. I say this because I really like the thumbnail image of this one, even more so than the original size. However, there isn’t enough detail to blow it up large.

Ice Columns

Sorry about not putting any update up yesterday.  I had all intentions to on Wednesday night.  However, we had a work gathering of sorts, and I didn’t end up getting home until around 2 AM, slightly drunk.  Needless to say, I didn’t feel like processing any images.  I promise I’ll try to do better.  It doesn’t help that it’s been so cold too, it really has a tendency to sap all my energy, among other things.

Speaking of cold, I figure this is a good picture for as cold as it’s been lately.  It was taken when I was up in St. Joe a few weekends ago for a, belated, Xmas lunch.  For as much ice as their was on the pier, I was somewhat amazed how there was no ice at all on Lake Michigan.

Oh yeah, I guess I haven’t really said anything about my vacation to AZ.  It was good.  It wasn’t quite as warm as I’d hoped it would be (only wore shorts once, and that was when I went running), but it was nice to get away for awhile.  Unfortunately, coming back from vacations, no matter how short is always a pain in the office.  Thankfully as of yesterday I actually got completely caught up.  Granted, I did come in 1-2 hours early Monday-Wednesday and then didn’t leave until around 7:30 each day.  It feels a lot better to be back on top of things though, that’s for sure.

Yeah, and I broke my camera.  I don’t want to really go into it today, but I’ll be sure to post something about it tomorrow.

Erins Graduation 1

I don’t think I mentioned it anywhere on this site, but Erin, Bree, and everyone graduated on Friday from Midwestern. Yay! And now the real world welcomes you.

I took around 300 pictures at the graduation, and so this week (and maybe some of next week) will be dedicated to those pictures. You will then be returned to your regularly scheduled program of industrial images. However, that will then be interrupted, I’m sure, of images from the AZ trip I’ll be leaving for in a week. Yay to vacation!

Motorcycle Speedometer

The final motorcycle picture.  I was hoping to get a more perfect square crop, but that just wasn’t possible.  Maybe if I take another picture of it I can make it happen, but definitely not with this image.

Motorcycle Tailpipe

Some more chrome, this time on the tailpipe instead of the engine.

Motorcycle Engine

The next three images have all been processed the same way, except for some slight cropping.  The motorcycle has been parked behind my apartment for the last month or so.  With as much rain as we’ve been getting, I was suprised that they didn’t cover it.  Oh well, it allowed for some nice chromed shots.

And if you look really closely, you can see me.

Frozen Turtle

With as warm as it has been around here, it’s amazing that I was able to find any ice at all.  Well, actually, this wasn’t taken in Chicago, but in Detroit.  That would explain it, right?

Metallic Sign

Man have I been lazy lately.  I haven’t been outside to take a picture in quite a while.  That’s even with the fifty degree weather we’ve been having.  It’s probably because I don’t have anyone to walk around with.  I do miss my photography partner.

On another note, I have been trying to do the photo friday image everyweek.  Mostly I’m using old ones, but I think this weeks is one of my best.  If you click on the Best of 2006 link and then search for “aaron spruit”, you’ll find it.

Tree Top

This is another wooden top, only with another design.  I actually like this one a little bit more than yesterdays because of the better handle on the depth of field.  Yesterday’s didn’t have a lot of the top in focus, and it wasn’t aligned with the center of the top.  With this one, I had the camera at a slightly different angle, which seems to have helped.

Snowflake Top

It was amazing how balanced this top was.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t very happy with the way any of the images turned out while it was spinning.  There wasn’t enough light to freeze it, plus with the black counter tops, there wouldn’t have been any way to tell if it was levitating.  Heck, even with this image, you can’t really tell if it’s spinning or not.
