The Pier

Down in St Petersburg, The Pier reminded me of Navy Pier here in Chicago.  They’re basically the same thing, a way to take people’s money with exceptionally high priced items.  It was fun to walk around, but no place I’d go normally.

St Petersburg Fountain

How can you go wrong with light and water playing with each other?  I also enjoy the subtle hints of greenery behind the water.

Peeling

There are so many run down areas in Chicago.  In fact, I live quite close to an urban area that is in the rebuilding phase.  This provides many nice texture specimens such as this.  I can’t wait till I have time to get out and actually use the macro lens to do more of this type of photography.

Lost

On one of my walking trips through Chicago, this earring caught my eye shining in the sun.  More than likely someone dropped it the previous night and another person hung it on the wall there.

Fan

Another shot from FL.  The one is actually the leaf of some sort of palm.  Along the water in St. Petersburg there is a park not dissimilar from the lake shore park here in Chicago.  It runs basically the whole of the shore of St. Petersburg.  One section of the park is a mini-park of various types of palm trees.  Most of the palm tree photos I’ve put up and will be putting up were photographed there.  It’s amazing how they all seemed to share similar characteristics, but then there were a few outliers, this being one of them with it’s strange leaf color.

Beach Chairs

This was taken down in FL while I was there for training a few weeks ago.  The exact location is Treasure Island Beach.  It was amazing how much beach there actually was here.  It was a good 100 yards of sand between the parking lot and the ocean.  It was nearing the end of the day so the park workers were taking down the chairs.  I don’t remember there being that many, but I think the picture remembers it a bit better than I do.

This was the last photo shoot for the Lighting and Portrait class I took.  Overall, I was impressed with the class.  This was the best image of the thirty or so I had to take (both composition, lighting, and subject’s expression).  The only thing I’m not really a fan of is the light spilling over his shoulder on the left side.  Oh well, things I’ll remember for next time.

Dying Daisy

I was finally able to get out and take a few pictures with the macro lens.  Wow, talk about a different shooting experience.  It’s definitely going to have to take some getting used to.  To begin with, I really need to remember to take it off of auto focus continuous.  With the incredibly shallow depth of field, a small little movement causes the camera to focus on another part, which makes things I don’t want in focus and vice versa.  There are some pretty interesting other shots that I may put up.  I have another one of this daisy, but face on and the petals are the only thing in focus.  It looks quite strange.  Hopefully I’ll be able to get out and use it a bit more this week.

Dots

Being that I stayed right across the street from Progress Energy Park, I figured I’d have to give it some photoblog attention.  Actually, I wasn’t so interested in the baseball part of it as I was the sign.  I actually wanted a different picture of the sign, but none of them turned out (I think I took over 20 of it alone).  Instead, all I have is a nice abstract piece.

Benches

The colors, the light, I’m not sure exactly what drew me to this picture, but as I was walking by I knew I just had too.
